Tim Paine Set To Have Big Say On Vice Captain But More To Team Than Just 3

Tim Paine will lead Australia in Test Cricket in October likely with Mitch Marsh or Pat Cummins as his vice captain. Australia are touring England in June but Test Cricket holds a big place for Australian players so October’s tour of UAE for 2 Tests with Pakistan marks a major Assignment.

  • Paine has a very good friendship with Mitch Marsh with the pair being mates for the last 6 years since Australia A and training camps in Brisbane plus playing together since late 2017.
  • Paine and Pat Cummins are close with Paine a big fan since Pat Cummins Test debut in 2011.
  • Senior players Nathan Lyon and Mitch Starc will be important view points given their experience in Test

New Australian Coach Justin Langer is not a big fan of leadership groups but has made it clear to me over the years and others who know him well that he will expect each player to contribute on the field it’s just not up to Tim Paine or Aaron Finch as the skippers in the various formats it’s also up to players to lead and voice their ideas to Paine and the bowlers when they see fit.

Australia are looking to find a new brand and exciting Cricket a great opportunity for Paine and Langer to work closely together and find a new era of excitement for the Baggy Green caps.

No person is more passionate about Australian Cricket than Justin Langer and his excitement in particular for Test Cricket will rub off on his new team. A highly successful mentor, father and coach to many in the West and Australia wide.
